Two churches on Big Pine will commemorate the climax of Jesus' ministry together during Holy Week. St. Francis in the Keys Episcopal Church and Lord of the Seas Lutheran Church will join to celebrate the 3 days that created the Christian movement. On Maundy Thursday, they will remember the Last Supper with a service that includes the Eucharist and the stripping of the altar, to be held at Lord of the Seas at 7 pm on April 14th. The service will include an anthem sung by the choir. The next day the two churches will observe Good Friday at St. Francis with a service at noon that will include the Stations of the Cross.

The churches will come together again to hold their 20th joint Easter sunrise service on the water's edge at the end of Bogie Drive. Worshipers are asked to bring their own chairs. The service will begin at 6:45 am and the sun will rise over the water behind the altar during the service. Once again the choir will sing a special anthem and the Rev. Chris Todd will preach on the uniqueness of Jesus' resurrection and its impact on our life. After the service the churches will return to Lord of the Seas for a hearty breakfast. The public is invited.

A combined Easter Sunday service of both congregations will be held at Lord of the Seas at 10:30 am.

Lord of the Seas is at 1250 Key Deer Blvd, 1 mile from the stoplight on Big Pine Key, just up from the softball field and is the tallest church on Big Pine. St. Francis in the Keys Episcopal Church is located at 1600 Key Deer Blvd, a mile and a half from the stoplight. It's the church with the red doors in the woods, just south of Watson Blvd. For more information check either of the the churches' websites or Facebook pages. The Rev. Todd's sermons can be found at preacherofthenight.blogspot.com

Posted on June 1, 2021 at 3:50 PM Comments comments (25)

Starting on June 6th and going through October, St. Francis in the Keys Episcopal Church and Lord of the Seas Lutheran Church will once again hold joint services at 10 am each Sunday after a year when they couldn't. And the public is invited to come.

The two congregations will meet together at St. Francis in the Keys on the first and third Sundays of the month. They will come together at Lord of the Seas on the second and fourth Sundays of each month. Though their worship services are very similar, each parish will experience the unique and delightful contributions their sister denomination has made to Christian tradition. St. Francis will share their Celtic service and their healing service. Each church will uphold their denomination's safety protocols when meeting in their sanctuary. Masks are mandatory at present at St. Francis. Social distancing is observed at both. The passing of the peace is by waving or making the peace sign or by bowing, not by physical contact. Both congregations are celebrating communion.

The sites of the two churches are only a quarter of a mile apart. Lord of the Seas is located at 1250 Key Deer Blvd, a mile and a quarter from the only stoplight on Big Pine Key. St. Francis in the Keys is at 1600 Key Deer Blvd, just south of Watson Blvd.

During the Covid-19 crisis, we have not been doing services at the church in person. But since the begining of the lockdown, Fr. Chris has been doing services online at 9 am Sundays using Facebook Live on our Facebook page. In addition he has been reading a chapter of the Bible every day around noon on Facebook. These videos and those of our worship services are all archived on our Facebook page. And you can now donate via our new Donation page on this website. We hope to return to in person worship when it is safe. In the meantime join us virtually. And as Fr. Chris says at the end of every video: Keep safe. Keep calm. Keep trusting God. We will get through this.
